ELMHURST, Ill. -Â The Elmhurst University women's volleyball team snapped their three-game skid, sweeping Illinois Institute of Technology Friday evening inside R.A. Faganel Hall.
Elmhurst (12-7, 1-4 CCIW) used a 25-13 opening set victory to keep the momentum and get back in the win column. The Bluejays were led by
Elise Rossing's 11 kills, while
Aly Reardon colected 17 digs in the match.
Keely Larson notched eight kills and four blocks on the evening, while freshman libero
Savannah Davis earned the start, collecting 21 digs.Â
The Scarlet Hawks (4-17, 3-6 NACC) tallied just 22 kills and a .045 hitting percentage in the match.
Both teams were even through the first part of the opening set, but a 6-0 run extended Elmhurst's lead to 12-5, and a flurry of errors from the Scarlet Hawks allowed Elmhurst to win the opening set, 25-13.
In the second set, the Bluejays started fast opening a 10-3 lead, but the visitors fought back to get the set within one point. From there, the Bluejays outscored the Scarlet Hawks 12-6 in the latter half of the set to take the second set, 25-18.
Elmhurst started even faster in the third set, opening an 8-1 lead and later extended the lead to 14-5. Elmhurst took care of business the rest of the set, and despite a late four-point burst from IIT on match point, the Bluejays took home the sweep with a 25-18 third-set victory.
