ELMHURST, Ill. – Keep up with all of the Elmhurst University athletic teams and take a look at the week ahead with the Bluejay Weekly.
MEN'S BASKETBALL
After taking down the Big Blue 75-73 last Wednesday evening inside R.A. Faganel Hall, the men's basketball team sits at 13-6 overall and 5-5 in CCIW play. Entering a key stretch of conference games, the men will hit the road this week for matchups at Illinois Wesleyan on Wednesday, Feb. 1 at 7:00 p.m. CT and at North Central College on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 4:15 p.m. CT.
Illinois Wesleyan owns a 10-9 overall record and a 5-5 mark in conference play. The Bluejays competed against the Titans in their conference opener back on November 30, falling at home 54-68. Most recently, Illinois Wesleyan dropped an 89-80 decision on the road at Augustana, and like the Bluejays look to gain position in the race to qualify for the CCIW Tournament.
North Central also sits at 10-9 overall on the season, but are 5-6 in conference play this year. The Cardinals are riding a three-game conference losing streak, dropping matchups at Millikin and against Augustana last week heading into the Bluejays' matchup on Saturday. NCC and Elmhurst played inside R.A. Faganel Hall back on December 17, with the Cardinals earning a 78-71 victory over the Bluejays. North Central will travel to Carroll on Wednesday, Feb. 1 before hosting Elmhurst on Saturday.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
The Bluejay women's basketball team sits at 2-16 overall and 0-10 in conference play. Following a break in action last Saturday, the Bluejays will have two chances this week to pick up their first conference victory. First, the women will welcome Illinois Wesleyan to R.A. Faganel Hall on Wednesday, Fe. 1 for a 7:00 p.m. CT tipoff, and will head to North Central on Saturday, Feb. 4 to kickoff a doubleheader with the mens team at 2:00 p.m. CT.
The Titans head into Wednesday night's matchup 11-9 overall and 6-5 in conference play, coming off a narrow 75-72 loss at Augustana last Saturday. The Bluejays and the Titans squared off back in November, dropping a 58-100 game in Elmhurst. North Central heads into Saturday's matchup with the Bluejays 5-14 overall and 2-9 in conference play. One of the Cardinals' two CCIW victories came against Elmhurst on Dec. 17, a 76-58 victory for NCC in Elmhurst. The Cardinals will host Carroll on Wednesday in Naperville before their matchup with Elmhurst on Saturday.
TRACK AND FIELD
Coming off a strong showing at the Aurora Grand Prix last weekend, the Elmhurst men's and women's track and field teams will compete in a pair of meets this weekend. First, the teams will head to Kenosha, Wis. for the Tadd Metzger Multi on Friday, Feb. 3 before heading to Chicago, Ill. again for the Windy City Rumble on Saturday, Feb. 4.Â
Last weekend, the Bluejays turned in team finishes of sixth and 11th for the women and men, respectivley. Individually, four different Bluejays broke school records to earn placements in the meet:
Ava David in the 400-meter dash (57.56),
Alyssa Rafuse in the mile run (5:02.40),
Nakala Nadeau in the 60-meter hurdles (8.84), and
Braxston Redmond in the 400-meter dash (49.51).Â
BOWLING
The Bluejay bowling team is coming off a weekend in Waterloo, Iowa for the Peacock Classic, where the team went 3-9 in matches.
Lorrie Decker placed third individually at the three-day event with a 220.60 game average, earning her CCIW Student Athlete of the Week honors for the second time this season.
Elmhurst will head to Bloomington, Ill. this weekend to take on Illinois Wesleyan in a CCIWÂ matchup.
