Women's Tennis Tripped Up by Carthage

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst University women's tennis team stumbled against Carthage falling 9-0 at home, bringing their season record to 6-3.

In doubles play, Elmhurst's No. 1 pair of Julia Kostadinova and Jolene Neuhalfen fell 8-2 the Firebirds Giana Apostoli and Xingchen Liu.

In a tight match at No. 2 doubles Elmhurst June Bering and Isabella Rahman fell 8-5 to Sasha Manojlovic and Gianna Mendes.

Carthage also took No. 3 doubles with Sierra Sonnemaker and Marie Weis winning 8-3 over Brynn Rubacky and Megan Engstrom.

In singles play, Liu toppled Neuhalfen 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1, while Kostadinova fell 6-1, 6-2 to Apostoli at No.2.

Rahman won the first set, but lost the match to Mendes 6-0, 1-6, 0-10 at No. 3.

Da Silva defeated Bering 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4. Sierra Sonnemaker overpowered Brynn 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5, while Weis downed Silvia Barak 6-3, 6-3 at No. 6 singles.
