ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst University volleyball team rallied from a 2-1 deficit to defeat North Central College 25-27, 30-28, 22-25, 25-19, 16-14 at R.A. Faganel Hall
Elmhurst (4-9/1-3 CCIW) raced out to a 9-6 lead in the opening set and held a 21-18 lead late in the set. North Central (7-4/2-1 CCIW) fought off a set point at 24-23 before rallying to take the set 27-25.
Elmhurst jumped out to a commanding 19-11 lead in the second set only to see North Central rally back and close to within four points at 23-19. Elmhurst led 24-21, but North Central scored the next four points to take a set point. The Bluejays fought off three set points before taking the set at 30-28.
In the third, Elmhurst built a 20-16 lead only for North Central to pull even at 20-20. The Cardinals used a 5-2 run to take the set 25-22 and open a 2-1 lead.
Elmhurst built a 19-14 cushion in the fourth set and did not lot the Cardinals get back into it, pulling away for the 25-19 win.
The Bluejays jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the fifth set before North Central battled back to pull even at 7-7. With the score tied at 9-9, Elmhurst rattled off a 5-2 run to take a 14-11 lead. The Cardinals scored the next thee points to even the score at 14-all, but a service error a kill from
Elise Rossing gave Elmhurst the match at 16-14.
Elmhurst hit .147 for the match with 57 kills and 30 errors in 184 attempts.
Jada Wiley powered Elmhurst with 15 kills, 16 digs and three blocks.
Meridith Rowe and Rossing added 10 kills apiece while
Keely Larson and
Lacey Kaiser finished with seven each.
Erin Murray led the team in assists with 27 while
Kellyn Kennedy totaled 21.
Payton Ceh finished with 25 digs while
Kayla Daros totaled 10.
Katelyn Bower led the team in blocks with six.
North Central was led by Aidan Bower's 22-kill, 18-dig performance. Katie Little and Kendra Battle added 11 kills apiece for the Cardinals.
Elmhurst plays at Carroll University on October 5.
