Football Team Falls to Augustana

ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst University football team outscored Augustana College 16-14 in the second half, but it wasn't enough as the Vikings toppled the Bluejays 34-16 at Langhorst Field.
 
Augustana (2-0/1-0 CCIW) took a 20-0 lead into the locker room at halftime after Tyler Rivelli scored three rushing touchdowns in the opening half. Rivelli scored on a one-yard touchdown plunge with 8:30 left in the opening quarter. Following an Elmhurst turnover, Rivelli dove in from a yard out to put the Vikings up 13-0 with six minutes left in the first. Rivelli added his third one-yard TD run early in the second quarter to push Augustana's lead up to 20-0.
 
Elmhurst (0-2/0-1 CCIW) finished with 71 yards of offense in the first 30 minutes while the Vikings totaled 211.
 
Augustana extended its lead to 27-0 early in the second half when Ian Gorken hauled in a 29-yard touchdown pass from Thomas Hall.
 
Elmhurst got rolling in the middle of the third quarter. A 54-yard strike from Connor Buyck to Trey Stablein helped set up a 29-yard field goal from Isaac Ochoa to put Elmhurst on the scoreboard.
 
The Bluejays put together a pair of impressive scoring drives in the fourth quarter. The Bluejays marched 81 yards in 12 plays cut the Vikings' lead to 27-10 following a one-yard touchdown plunge from Julian Cavallo. Augustana answered back with a 67-yard scoring drive topped off by a 43-yard touchdown run from Rivelli to make the score 34-10.
 
Elmhurst then put together a 10-play, 99-yard scoring drive late in the fourth quarter capped by a two-yard touchdown pass from Buyck to R.J. Anderson. The Bluejays' touchdown made the final score 34-16 in favor of the Vikings.
 
Elmhurst finished with 350 total yards of offense, passing for 207 yards and rushing 142. Augustana totaled 433 yards of offense, rushing for 205 and passing for 228.
 
Aidan Pollock led the Bluejays on the ground, rushing eight times for 88 yards. Cavallo carried 13 times for 56 yards and a touchdown. Buyck completed 15-of-28 passes for 208 yards and one touchdown.
 
Rivelli paced Augustana with 75 yards and four touchdowns on 12 carries. Jacob Brooks added 79 yards on 11 carries. Hall finished 21-of-34 through the air for 228 yards and a score. Bobby Inserra caught nine passes for 79 yards.
 
Bryce Gable led Elmhurst's defense, finishing with 15 tackles, including seven solo tackles. He added 2.5 tackles for loss and broke up two pass plays. Talyn West added 10 tackles while Colton Krause finished with nine and Jake Masco added 11.
 
Elmhurst plays at top-ranked North Central College, next Saturday (September 24).
