ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst University men's soccer team soared to a 3-1 victory in its home opener over Benedictine University at Langhorst Field.
The Bluejays took a 1-0 lead with 31 seconds left in the first half after
Noah Backhaus was fouled in the box and found the back of the net on a penalty kick.
Ilija Jerinic extended the Elmhurst (1-0) lead in the 51
st minute with a successful penalty kick.
The Eagles responded back four minutes later with a header goal by Yusuf Sahin to put Benedictine (0-1) on the board.
Jerinic tallied his second goal of the contest in the 70
th minute of play to secure the 3-1 win.
Noah Reed earned the win with five saves.
The Bluejays head to Grinnell on Saturday, September 3 for their next contest.
