The Elmhurst University baseball team suffered a pair of CCIW losses on Sunday, falling 3-2 at North Central College before closing the day with an 8-4 loss to North Park University.
NORTH CENTRAL 3, ELMHURST 2 – The Bluejays' ninth-inning rally came up one run short in a 3-2 loss to North Central College.
North Central (28-8) grabbed a 2-0 lead in the second on RBIs from Trey Roach and Michael Davis. Jared Wojcik added a run-scoring single in the fifth to put the Cardinals
Elmhurst mounted a rally in the ninth. With runners at second and third and two outs,
Trey Romay scored on a wild pitch to the Bluejays on the board.
Drew Raspolich followed with a RBI single to make the score 3-2.
Jesse James singled to put the tying run on third, but a strikeout ended the game and let the Cardinals escape with the 3-2 victory.
Noah Jordan made the start and took the loss despite pitching well. Jordan worked six innings, scattering eight hits and three earned runs. He walked three and fanned six.
Joseph Kalish pitched two scoreless innings of relief, allowing just one hit.
North Central's Charlie Klemm picked up the win, working five innings and allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out eight in five innings.
NORTH PARK 8, ELMHURST 4 – North Park overcame a 4-0 deficit to defeat the Bluejays 8-4 at Wheaton's Lee Pfund Stadium.
Elmhurst took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a two-out RBI single from
Jesse James. The Bluejays tacked on three runs in the third to open up a four-run lead.
Trevor Lorek doubled and later scored on a wild pitch.
Drew Raspolich knocked in a run with a single and James was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force in Elmhurst's final run of the frame.
Elmhurst's lead lasted until the fifth when North Park plated five runs to move in front. Justin Swanson delivered the big blow in the inning, delivering a bases-clearing three-run triple. North Park added a run in the sixth and two in the eighth to pull away for the 8-4 victory.
James recorded two of Elmhurst's eight hits in the contest and drove in two runs.
Jaysn Miller made the start for Elmhurst and took the loss, allowing seven hits and six runs over 5.1 innings of work. He walked two and struck out three. Ethan Sund earned the win in relief for the Vikings, pitching the final 6.1 innings and allowing just five hits while striking out 13.
Elmhurst plays at North Park University on Monday, May 2, at 6:00 p.m.
