BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Elmhurst University baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader at Illinois Wesleyan University, falling 16-4 in game one and 14-2 in the night cap.
Elmhurst fell to 8-12 overall and 1-5 in the CCIW while Illinois Wesleyan improved to 12-9 overall and 3-1 in league play.
ILLINOIS WESLEYAN 16, ELMHURST 4 (Game One) - Illinois Wesleyan scored six runs in the third and five in the seventh to score a 16-4 win in seven innings in game one.
The Titans scored two runs in the first inning before Elmhurst got on the scoreboard in the second with a run-scoring single from
Jonathan Mays. The Titans broke things open in the third, scoring six times to open up an 8-1 lead.
Elmhurst cut into the lead in the third.
Freddie March singled home a run and
Drew Raspolich added a sacrifice fly to make the score 8-3.
The Titans added three runs in the fifth and five in the seventh to pull away for the victory.
Mays collected two of Elmhurst's eight hits in the loss.
Trey Romay cracked a solo homer for the Bluejays.
Alex Kielion made the start and took the loss, surrendering six hits and seven earned runs over two innings of work.
ILLINOIS WESLEYAN 14, ELMHURST 2 - The Titans finished the doubleheader sweep with a 14-2 win in game two.
The Titans scored the game's first 10 runs over the first three innings and never looked back.
Michael Campanaro homered for Elmhurst and
Paul Fomby also drove in run.
Jaysn Miller made the start and took the loss, allowing 10 hits and 10 runs in 2.2 innings. He walked three and struck out three.
Elmhurst travels to Augustana College on Sunday, April 10.
