Women's Lacrosse Downed by Cornell

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – The Elmhurst University women's lacrosse team suffered an 18-2 loss to Cornell College in a rescheduled matchup.

The Rams held a 3-0 lead at the end of the opening period, but Elmhurst's Gracie Eastman was able to put the Bluejays on the board with 12:32 left to play in the first half.

Elmhurst (0-8) trailed 11-1 at the midway point.

Cornell (6-5) increased its lead to 12 goals before Catie Schenatzki scored the second Bluejay goal of the contest to make the score 13-2 with 4:15 left to play in the third quarter.

The Rams closed out the contest with five unanswered goals in route to victory.

Marie Corpuz led Elmhurst with five groundballs, while Eastman and Schenatzki each won three draw controls.

Cornell was led by Sydney Swift who went 3-of-3 in free position attempts to finish with five goals. Nina Deer chipped in four goals and one assist, while Ellie Nestingen and India Smith finished with a pair of goals apiece. Anna Methe also added in four goals and seven won draw controls in the win. Seanne Bialo picked up a game-high eight groundballs and caused three turnovers.

Elmhurst's Corinna Salmon collected 11 saves, while Kathryn Andries and Maddie Althoff earned the win with four and two saves respectively.

The Bluejays are back in action at Langhorst Field on Wednesday, April 13 at 7:00 p.m. for a CCIW matchup against Carthage College.
