Women's Track Wins EU Twilight Invite

WHEATON, Ill. – The Elmhurst University women's track and field team totaled 157.5 points to win the Elmhurst University Twilight Invitational at Wheaton College.
 
North Central finished second with 133 points while Wheaton placed third with 104 points.
 
The Bluejays had a strong showing in the sprints. Elmhurst finished the night with three top-10 finishers in the 100 meters. Ava David placed second in 12.23 seconds while Huda Hussaini placed fourth in 12.56 seconds. Hannah Schwarz finished ninth in 12.82 seconds. Schwarz, Karmyn Flesch and Stacia Landry added top-10 finishes in the 200 meters. Schwarz placed sixth in 26.67 seconds while Flesch placed seventh in 26.87. Stacia Landry added a ninth-place finish in 27.08 seconds. Sadie Hartmann placed sixth in the 400 meters with a time of 1:03.17.
 
Venezia Munoz scored a fourth-place finish in the 800 meters, crossing the finish line in 2:24.89. Elmhurst had three runners finish in the top-10 of the 1,500 meters. Emily Gilligan placed fourth in 4:53.81 while Natalia Hernandez finished eighth in 5:01.72. Alyssa Rafuse finished right behind Rafuse in ninth place in 5:03.58.
 
Emily Clausen, Grace Grimaldi, Noelle Veome and Audrey Renaud combined for 21 points in the 3,000 meters. Clausen won the race in 10:32.61 while Grimaldi placed fifth in 11:27.00. Veome finished sixth in 11:27.81 while Renaud placed eighth in 11:42.31. Elita Spadlowski won the 5,000 meters in 18:37.34, scoring 10 team points in the process.

Lauren Mack placed second in the steeplechase, totaling eight team points in the process. Mack finished the race in 12:31.41.
 
Nakala Nadeau and Edith Mercado both placed in the top-10 of the 100 hurdles. Nadeau finished third (15.20) while Mercado placed seventh in 16.01 seconds. Mercado placed fourth in the 400 hurdles in 1:10.82 while Gianna Konieczny finished seventh with a time of 1:16.18. Nadeau placed 10th in 1:16.65.
 
Elmhurst's 4x100 squad of Hussaini, Lauren Marshall, Hanna Matuszewski and David took home first place, finishing the race in 48.22 just .06 seconds in front of North Central. The Bluejays' 4x400 squad of Hussaini, Flesch, David and Munoz placed second in 4:13.77 to score eight team points.
 
The Bluejays had another strong showing the jumps as well with eight top-10 finishes over the three events. Stefania Camaci tied for sixth in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.47 meters. Kween Jean added a 10th place finish with a height of 1.42 meters. Amanda Lams placed third in the long jump after recording a distance of 5.29 meters. Marisa Brown (4.90 meters) and Erin Matthias (4.86 meters) placed eighth and ninth, respectively in the long jump. Lams (10.90 meters), Brown (10.75 meters) and Matthias (10.28 meters) finished second, third and fourth, respectively, in the triple jump.
 
Kelsey Becker added a second-place finish in the pole vault by clearing a height of 3.05 meters.
 
Ericka Creek scored a second place finish in the hammer throw, adding eight points to Elmhurst's team total with a toss of 41.09 meters. Emma Garrett added a 10th place finish in the hammer throw (20.68 meters) and in the discus (26.72 meters). Isabely Hernandez finished ninth in the javelin, recording a mark of 21.31 meters.
