Baseball Team Sweeps Marian

ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst University baseball team swept both ends of a doubleheader from Marian University, defeating the Sabres 6-5 and 5-4 in a chilly night at Butterfield Park.

ELMHURST 6, MARIAN 5 (Game One) – Elmhurst rallied from a 4-0 deficit to win the opening game 6-5.
 
Marian jumped out to a 4-0 lead, scoring a run in the second and three in the third. The Sabres took advantage of three Elmhurst errors to account for four unearned runs in the two innings.
 
Elmhurst answered back in the bottom of the fourth, taking advantage of a Marian error to plate three unearned runs. Drew Raspolich singled home a run to start the scoring and Brett Bishop tacked on a two-run double to pull Elmhurst to within a run.
 
Elmhurst surged in front with two runs in the fifth. Paul Fomby delivered a two-out, RBI single to pull Elmhurst even at 4-4. After a walk moved Fomby to second, Troy Taller delivered a run-scoring single to give Elmhurst its first lead of the game. The Bluejays added an insurance run in the sixth on Trevor Lorek's RBI single.
 
Marian threatened in the seventh, scoring a run and putting runners on second and third with just one out. Cole Bozzi was able to fan back-to-back batters to preserve the win for the Bluejays.
 
Joseph Ingratta made the start and took a no-decision for the Bluejays, allowing four hits and four unearned runs over 3.2 innings of work. He walked one and struck out three. Zach Keplar earned the win in relief for Elmhurst, pitching 1.1 innings and allowing just three walks while fanning two. Bozzi picked up his second save of the season by retiring both batters he faced.
 
ELMHURST 5, MARIAN 4 (Game Two) – Freddie March homered to break a 4-4 tie and help the Bluejays earn the sweep over Marian with a 5-4 win in game two.
 
Marian scored a run in the top of the first, but Elmhurst answered back immediately  with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame on a two-out, two-run double from Taller.
 
Elmhurst tacked on two runs in the second, scoring on a wild pitch and a Trevor Lorek RBI single. The Bluejays' lead did not last as Marian countered with three runs in the top of the third to pull even at 4-4.
 
With one out in the bottom of the fifth, March broke the 4-4 tie by blasting his 13th homer of the season over fence in left center field.
 
Charlie Smith earned the win in relief for Elmhurst, pitching 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing just two walks while fanning two. Spencer Anton pitched the final two frames to pick up the save. He allowed just one hit while fanning one.
 
Elmhurst travels to North Park University on Saturday, April 30.
