ELMHURST, Ill. – After a closely contested first half, the Elmhurst University men's lacrosse team came up short in the second half, falling to Carthage College 11-5 at Langhorst Field.

Elmhurst (10-5/2-3 CCIW) battled with Carthage (11-4/4-1 CCIW) for the game's first 30 minutes, heading into halftime even at 3-3.

Elmhurst scored first, taking a 1-0 lead on a
Sante Dybowski goal midway through the first quarter. Carthage pulled even five minutes later on a Andrew Johnson goal.
Jake Grebe scored early in the second to put the Bluejays up 2-1, but Carthage pulled even eight minutes later. A Ben Krok goal with 3:32 left in the half gave the Firebirds a 3-2 lead, but Dybowski netted his second goal of the game with just over two minutes remaining to send the game to halftime even at 3-3.Â

Carthage scored the first two goals of the third quarter to move in front 5-3.
Chase Krolik scored with 4:15 left to cut the deficit down to one at 5-4, but Carthage scored the next six goals between the third and fourth quarter to open up an 11-4 lead.
Tommy Smyth added a goal for Elmhurst in the final four minutes to make the final score 11-5.

Carthage finished with 41 shot while Elmhurst totaled 38. The Bluejays successfully cleared 20-of-22 attempts and held a slight 20-19 edge in ground balls. Elmhurst won 8-of-20 faceoffs in the contest.

Dybowski paced Elmhurst's offense with two goals while Grebe totaled two points with a goal and an assist.
Braden King won 7-of-10 faceoffs and collected four ground balls.
Ben Luke and
Marcus Yandall finished with an assist apiece for the Bluejays.

George Burchfield led Carthage's offense with three goals while Johnson and Andrew Frey added two goals apiece.

Noah Mickelson recorded 13 saves in goal for the Bluejays while Blake Raphael tallied 14 saves for Carthage.

Elmhurst travels to Illinois Wesleyan University on Saturday, April 30 to close out the regular season.
