Men's Lacrosse Drops Final Contest of 2022 Season

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Elmhurst University men's lacrosse team closed out its 2022 season with a 25-15 loss to Illinois Wesleyan at Tucci Stadium.

The Bluejays trailed 10-4 at the end of the opening period despite a hattrick by Ben Luke and one goal by Jake Grebe.

Marcus Yandall and Pete Grebe scored the pair of Elmhurst goals in the second quarter to head into the break, down 16-6.

Illinois Wesleyan (11-4/6-0 CCIW) and Elmhurst (10-6/2-4 CCIW) both scored nine goals in the second half of play, but the Bluejays were unable to make up for the first half lead the Titans had secured.

Elmhurst was led by Luke with five goals and one assist. Yandall closed out his collegiate lacrosse career with three goals, while Parker O'Leary, Jake Grebe and Ethan Stepanek each added in one goal and one assist in the loss. Pete Grebe finished with a hattrick of goals, while Sam Dulle and Brenden Crouse each contributed an assist. Trent Nyberg led the team with two caused turnovers and Noah Mickelson picked up a team-high six groundballs.

Illinois Wesleyan was led by Carson Kiichle with nine points off of one goal and eight assists. Rick Smith chipped in five goals and four assists, while Connor Kiichle finished with a pair of goals and assists. Nine other Titans tallied goals in the win to secure the regular season conference championship and the number one seed in the conference tournament.

Noah Mickelson and Justin Nguyen combined for 22 saves for the Bluejays, while Alex Oximana, Ethan Hare and Colin Tervo totaled 15 saves as a group to earn the win for the Titans.

Elmhurst closed out its 2022 season with 10-6 overall record and a 2-4 mark in the CCIW.
