ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst University women's lacrosse team scored a season-high 12 goals, but came up short in a 20-12 loss to Augustana College at Langhorst Field.
Gaby Castillo scored the first goal of the contest for the Bluejays with 7:10 left in the opening period to take a 1-0 lead. Augustana (5-8/1-4 CCIW) responded with back-to-back goals with five minutes remaining in the first to take a 2-1 lead.
Elmhurst (0-12/0-6 CCIW) was outscored 7-3 in the second quarter and trailed 9-4 at the midway point. The Vikings slowly pulled away in the second half, leading by as many as 10 before holding on for the eight-goal win.
Elmhurst was led by
Gracie Eastman who scored six goals and tallied one assist. Castillo finished with four goals and a team-high five groundballs.
Catie Schenatzki chipped in one goal and an assist in the loss, while
Lindsay Novak scored her first career-goal and tied for a team-high three caused turnovers.
Augustana was led by Margaret Cecilio with five goals and four assists. Cassidy Petrie added in four goals and one assist, while Kate Hettiger contributed five goals in the win. Sinclaire Lucero chipped in a pair of goals, while Claire Kim finished with three goals and one assist. Sydney Rector added in one goal and an assist for the Vikings.
Corinna Salmon collected seven saves, while Rachel Forman and Hannah Collins earned the win with eight combined saves.
The Bluejays close out their 2022 season on Saturday, April 30 at 10 a.m. against Marian University.
