Bluejays Close Out Season With Win Over Marian

ELMHURST, Ill. – Gaby Castillo scored with 2.8 seconds left in the contest to help the Elmhurst University women's lacrosse team rally from a four goal deficit and defeat Marian University 10-9 at Langhorst Field.

Marian (2-13 jumped out to a 4-3 lead after the first quarter and led 6-4 at halftime. The Sabres built an 8-4 lead midway through the third before Elmhurst (1-12) outscored Marian 6-1 over the final 21 minutes of play. Marian led 9-6 early in the fourth before goals from Gracie Eastman and Castillo cut the deficit down to one with 11:26 remaining. Eastman netted the tying goal with 6:30 remaining to pull Elmhurst even at 9-9. The Bluejays capitalized on a late turnover from Marian allowing Castillo to split a pair of defenders and net the game-winner with less than three seconds remaining.

Eastman led Elmhurst with five goals and one assist. Castillo finished her collegiate lacrosse career with three goals, including the game-winner. Catie Schenatzki added a pair of goals and an assist, along with a team-high four groundballs in the win. Marie Corpuz and Castillo co-led the team with two caused turnovers apiece.

Marian was led by Izzy Newton with five goals. Nicole Stachon and Jazmine Barrios each chipped in a pair of goals, while Emma Heide and Taylor Russo added in one goal apiece in the loss. Emilee Magill, Dalla Kreisa and Newton led the team with three groundballs each.

Gwen Kosirog collected six saves for the Sabres, while Corinna Salmon earned the win in goal for the Bluejays with 14 saves.
