Women's Track Places Second at Wheaton Invite

WHEATON, Ill. – The Elmhurst University women's track and field team totaled 122 points to place second out of 11 squads at Wheaton College's Don Church Invitational.
 
Elmhurst continued to impress in the jumps as Amanda Lams won both the long and triple jumps and Stefania Camaci won the high jump. Lams won the long jump with a distance of 5.38 meters. Marisa Brown added a third-place finish with a distance of 5.12 meters. In the triple jump, Lams finished first with a mark of 11.32 meters while Brown placed second in 11.06 meters. Erin Matthias added a fifth-place finish with a mark of 10.39 meters. Camaci won the high jump, clearing a height of 1.58 meters on her opening attempt to win the event. Kween Jean added a ninth-place finish after clearing a height of 1.43 meters.

Huda Hussaini and Hanna Matuszewski both scored top-10 finishes in the 100 and 200 meters. In the 100 meters, Hussaini placed second in 12.40 seconds while Matuszewsi finished eighth in 12.64 seconds. Hussaini finished eighth (26.29 seconds) and Matuszewski placed ninth (26.31 seconds) in the 200 meters.
 
Karmyn Flesch and Sadie Hartman combined for four points in the 400 meters. Flesch finished sixth in 1:01.94 while Hartmann placed eighth in 1:04.68. Venezia Munoz picked up eight team points in the 800 meters by placing second in 2:26.90. Alyssa Rafuse added an eighth-place finish in the 1,500 meters, crossing the finish line in 5:17.02.
 
Elmhurst had five finishers in the top-10 in the 5,000 meters. Emily Clausen placed second in 18:37.93 while Elita Spadlowski finished fifth in 18:48.96. Noelle Veome finished seventh in 19:48.12 while Grace Grimaldi (20:19.87) and Audrey Renaud (20:30.43) placed ninth and 10th, respectively.
 
Nakala Nadeau scored a third-place finish in the 100 hurdles, crossing the finish line in 14.76 seconds. Edith Mercado added a ninth-place finish in 16.41. In the 400 hurdles, Mercado placed sixth in 1:09.09.
 
Elmhurst added eight team points in the steeplechase behind a third-place finish from Esther Brown (12:18.85) and a seventh-place finish from Lauren Mack (12:45.77).
 
The Bluejays' 4x100 relay squad of Hussaini, Francesca Scarbaggio, Matuszewski and Lauren Marshall finished second in 49.35 seconds. The 4x400 team of Hartmann, Flesch, Gianna Konieczny and Stacia Landry finished third in 4:15.07.
 
Kelsey Becker and Grace Tu both scored points in the pole vault. Becker finished sixth by clearing a height of 2.90 meters. Tu placed seventh after clearing 2.75 meters.
 
Ericka Creek added an eighth-place finish for Elmhurst in the hammer throw, recording a toss of 40.09 meters.
