Men's Lacrosse Bounces Back Against Augustana

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Elmhurst University men's lacrosse team evened its conference record with a 12-7 victory over Augustana College.

The Vikings (9-5/2-3 CCIW) jumped out to a 2-0 lead over the Bluejays in the opening minutes of the first quarter. In the final nine minutes of the opening period, Marcus Yandall, Parker O'Leary and Sante Dybowski each scored one goal for the Bluejays to give Elmhurst a 3-2 lead heading into the second quarter.

Elmhurst (10-4/2-2 CCIW) dominated the second period offensively, outscoring Augustana 5-2 to extend its lead to four at the midway point.

The Bluejays defense shutout Augustana 2-0 in the third quarter, but were outscored in the final period 3-2 by the Vikings to make t he final score 12-7.

Elmhurst was led by Jake Grebe with three goals and one assist. Yandall finished with a team-high four assists, while Brenden Crouse added one goal and assist while winning 7-of-10 faceoff attempts. O'Leary chipped in a second goal in the third quarter, while Chase Krolik, Tommy Smyth, Ryan Swank and Ethan Stepanek each scored one goal apiece in the Bluejay win. David Castaneda also picked up a team-high five groundballs.

Sam Shaver led the way for Augustana with two goals. Mark Teschke and Carson Ghys contributed one goal and assist apiece, while Matteo Uccelli, Bob Robertson and Elijah Grasesser each added in one goal in the loss for the Vikings. John Calabrese finished with a team-high nine groundballs and won 10-of-20 faceoff attempts.

Cameron Duffy collected 13 saves, while Noah Mickelson earned the win for Elmhurst with 15 saves.

The Bluejays head home to Langhorst Field to take on Carthage College in a key CCIW matchup on Wednesday, April 27 at 7 pm.
