KENOSHA, Wis. - The Elmhurst University baseball team split a doubleheader at Carthage College. The Bluejays fell 8-7 in game one but bounced back to win game two 10-7.
Elmhurst moved to 10-16 overall and 3-8 in the CCIW while Carthage stands now at 9-21 overall and 3-9 in league play.Â
CARTHAGE 8, ELMHURST 7 (Game One) - Carthage raced out to a 6-0 lead but needed two runs in the eighth inning to take game one 8-7.Â
The Firebirds scored two runs in the first and four more in the second to jump out to a six-run cushion. Elmhurst answered back with two runs in the second on a two-run homer from
Jesse James.
Drew Raspolich cracked a two-run double in the third inning to pull the Bluejays to within two runs.Â
Elmhurst took its first lead of the game with three runs in the fifth.
Zachary Hafner singled home a run and
Jonathan Mays put Elmhurst in front with a two-run double to give the Bluejays a 7-6 lead.Â
The Bluejays held the lead until the eighth inning when Carthage's Jax Calverley cracked a two-run homer to give the Firebirds the victory.Â
Mays led Elmhurst at the plate with three hits and two RBIs.

Paul Fomby, Raspolich, James and Hafner added two hits apiece for the Bluejays.Â
J.T. Oie took the loss in relief for the Bluejays despite pitching well. He worked 4.2 innings and allowed four hits and two runs. He fanned three while not issuing a walk. Jake Hartman Jr and Bryce Schaum combined to strike out 16 batters for the Firebirds.Â
ELMHURST 10, CARTHAGE 7 (Game Two) - Elmhurst came away the split in the doubleheader by taking game two 10-7 behind 13 hits at the plate.Â
Carthage led 2-0 after the top of the third, but Elmhurst scored ar un in the bottom of the third on a passed ball. Elmhurst took a 3-2 lead in the fourth after
Michael Campanaro smashed a two-run homer. Carthage pulled even at 3-3 with a run in the top of the fifth, but the Bluejays moved back in front with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Fomby belted a two-run homer to start the scoring and James added a RBI double to account for Elmhurst's third run of the inning.Â
Carthage scored a run in the sixth to make the score 6-4, but Elmhurst broke things open in the seventh with four runs. Hafner delivered a two-run RBI double to start the scoring. Mays added a RBI single and a Carthage error allowed Hafner to score as well.Â
Carthage scored three runs in the top of the ninth to make th final score 10-7.Â
James finished 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored and a RBI.
Trey Romay added two hits and scored a run. Fomby, Campanaro and Hafner all finished with two RBIs apiece in the win.Â
Noah Jordan made the start and picked up the win for Elmhurst. Jordan worked 6.2 innings, scattering 10 hits and four runs. He walked one and struck out seven.Â
Elmhurst plays the rubber game of the three-game series with Carthage tomorrow (April 24).Â
