ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst University women's lacrosse team fell to Alma College, 17-4, at its Inaugural SIDS Awareness game at Langhorst Field.
Elmhurst stayed right with the Scots for the first half before Alma pulled away after halftime.
Pauline Schallmo and
Gaby Castillo scored the first two goals of the game for the Bluejays to give Elmhurst (0-6) a 2-0 lead.
Alma (9-0) responded with three consecutive goals to close out the opening quarter to take a 3-2 lead.
Elmhurst's
Catie Schenatzki tied the contest up at three with her first goal of the contest with 10:11 left to play in the second quarter. Rileigh McGeorge scored the sole Fighting Scots goal of the second quarter to give Alma a narrow 4-3 lead over the Bluejays heading into halftime.
The Fighting Scots outscored Elmhurst 13-1 in the second half to earn their ninth victory of the season and to keep their undefeated record.
The Bluejays were led by Schenatzki with two goals.
Corinna Salmon recorded 13 saves and picked up a team-high three groundballs.
Alma was led by Joanna Scorziello with three assists and three goals. Kirsten Browne finished with five goals, while Jamie Sherman added in three goals and one assist in the win. McGeorge chipped in three goals, while Lauren Kenny contributed a pair of goals. Sam Peterson finished the contest with one goal and a team-high four groundballs. Alaina Frye earned the victory in goal with six saves.
Elmhurst hosts the University of Chicago for a conference matchup on Wednesday, April 6 at 7:00 p.m. at Langhorst Field.
