ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst University men's lacrosse team opened up conference play with a decisive 25-4 win over Carroll University at Langhorst Field.
The Bluejays dominated offensively from the first whistle, scoring 12 unanswered goals and holding the Pioneers scoreless in the opening period.
Carroll's (1-5) Zach Mehrtens and Josh Kovach were able to score one goal each in the second quarter to get the Pioneers on the board, however, Elmhurst tacked on seven-goals in the second quarter to head into halftime with a comfortable 19-2 lead.
Elmhurst (9-2) outscored the Pioneers 6-2 in the second half in route to its ninth consecutive victory.
Leading the way for the Bluejays was
Marcus Yandall with seven points on three goals and four assists.
Parker O'Leary added six points on five goals and one assist.
Pete Grebe posted a career-high four goals and two assists to also total six points.
Ethan Stepanek rattled off three goals and one assist for the Bluejays to finish with four points.
Ben Luke,
Cullen Nordeman and
Sante Dybowski each scored a pair of goals in the win while
Jake Grebe,
Chandler Foerster,
Brenden Crouse and Philo Bane each tallied one goal for Elmhurst. Crouse also led both squads with eight groundballs and won 16-of-17 faceoffs while also totaling three assists for the Bluejays. Â
Carroll was led by Mehrtens with two goals and one assist. Isaac Williams chipped in one goal in the loss. Spencer Lautner picked up a team-high five groundballs, while goalkeeper, Cole Faust, collected 14 saves in the loss.
Elmhurst's
Justin Nguyen earned the win in goal with four saves.
The Bluejays continue conference play on Saturday, April 9 when they host Transylvania at 1:00 p.m.
