ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst University men's lacrosse team had its nine-game winning streak snapped and suffered its first conference loss of the season to Transylvania University, falling 13-9 on Senior Day at Langhorst Field.
Ben Luke scored the first goal of the contest to put the Bluejays ahead 1-0. The Pioneers responded less than one minute later to tie the game up at one apiece.
Jake Grebe scored the final goal of the first quarter for the Bluejays with 9:02 remaining before Transylvania closed out the opening period with five unanswered goals to take a 6-2 lead.
Sante Dybowski added one goal in the second quarter, while
Parker O'Leary chipped in a pair to cut the lead to three at the midway point.
Transylvania (8-3) outscored Elmhurst by one, 5-4, in the second half, but the Bluejays could not overcome the scoring frenzy by the Pioneers in the first quarter.
Elmhurst (9-2) was led by senior
Marcus Yandall with four assists and two caused turnovers. Luke and O'Leary finished with a hat trick each, while
Trent Nyberg and
Cullen Nordeman each added in a pair of assists.
Braden King won 10-of-22 faceoff attempts and picked up a team-high five groundballs.Â
Dalton Hubbs led the Pioneers with five goals. Andrew Hamill added in three goals and one assist, while Quinn Fox chipped in two goals and one assist. Bryce Lowe, Will Warner and AJ Teague each scored one goal in the win for Transylvania. Teague also picked up a game-high eight groundballs and caused three turnovers. Peyton Bray won 15-of-25 faceoff attempts.
Elmhurst's
Noah Mickelson collected 21 saves, while Connor Haney earned the win for the Pioneers with 13 saves.
The Bluejays head to Naperville on Saturday, April 16 to take on North Central College at 1:00 p.m.
