GREENCASTLE, Ind. – The Elmhurst University men's lacrosse team soundly defeated DePauw University on the road, 13-5.
Ben Luke put Elmhurst on the board less than a minute into the game. The Tigers tied the game up at one apiece with 9:57 left in the first quarter, before the Bluejays took control offensively for the remainder of play. The Bluejays scored three straight goals to lead 4-1 before DePauw scored in the final seconds of the first quarter.
Elmhurst (2-2) led 4-2 at the half after both teams came up scoreless in the second quarter.
The Bluejays outscored the Tigers 6-1 in the third quarter to extend their lead to 10-3.
Elmhurst scored the first three goals of the fourth quarter to open up a 10-goal lead. DePauw (0-3) scored the final two goals of the contest to make the final score 13-5.
Ben Luke led the way for Elmhurst with three goals and one assist.
Marcus Yandall totaled five assists while
Cullen Nordeman added four assists.
Parker O'Leary,
Ryan Camarata,
Jake Grebe and Sante chipped in a pair of goals each.
The Tigers were led by Henry White with two goals. Connor Gibson added in a goal and assist, while Beckett Tasker and Chris Schaefer chipped in one goal each.
Elmhurst picked up 25 groundballs to DePauw's 22. The Bluejays successfully cleared 19-of-30 attempts. Both squads won 10 faceoffs each.
Noah Mickelson earned the win in goal for the Bluejays, allowing just five goals while recording 12 saves. Patrick Lawton stopped 13 shots for DePauw.
Elmhurst returns home to Langhorst Field for its next contest on Wednesday, March 9 at 4:00 p.m. when they take on Aurora University.
