FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Elmhurst University women's lacrosse team dropped a close contest to Franklin College, falling 12-11.
The Bluejays jumped out to a 4-0 lead over the Grizzlies in the first quarter with
Catie Schenatzki leading the attack with two goals.
Elmhurst (0-3) added three goals in the second period to take a 7-4 lead heading into the locker room.
Franklin (1-2) was able to tie the game up at eight in the third quarter, after outscoring the Bluejays 4-1.
The Grizzlies gained control of the game in the fourth quarter scoring three unanswered goals to take a 11-8 lead with 8:46 left to play.Â
The Bluejays were able to get within one goal, but ran out of time to come out on top.
Schenatzki led the way for Elmhurst with four goals, four groundballs and four caused turnovers.
Gaby Castillo and
Gracie Eastman added a pair of goals each in the loss.
Gabby Malec,
Bailey Ekstrand and
Marie Corpuz all netted goals for the Bluejays.
Franklin was led by Baleigh Riddle who finished with five goals and one assist. Victoria Simmons chipped in three goals and two assists, while Mia Turnbaugh added in a pair of goals in the win. Kara Woodard picked up a team-high three groundballs.
Elmhurst successfully cleared 15-of-20 attempts in the loss.
Bluejay goalkeeper,
Corinna Salmon, collected seven saves, while Riley Rice earned the win for Franklin with eight saves.
