ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst University men's lacrosse team earned its first win of the season with a 17-7 victory over the University of Northwestern-St. Paul at Langhorst Field.
The Bluejays shutout the Eagles in the first quarter to take a dominant 7-0 lead.
Northwestern-St. Paul (0-1) responded at the start of the second quarter with two quick goals by Khoa Vu and Thomas Alderson.
Elmhurst's
Ben Luke ended the Eagles' scoring run with his second goal of the game. The Bluejays closed out the first half with four unanswered goals to head into the locker room up 12-3.
The Eagles cut the lead down to nine after three consecutive goals to close out the third quarter and to start the fourth.
Elmhurst (1-2) was led by
Marcus Yandall with four goals and three assists.
Sante Dybowski finished with four goals and two assists, while
Jake Grebe scored one goal and posted a game-high five assists.
Braden King won 10-of-13 face-offs in the win.
Northwestern-St. Paul was led by Sam Moses with two goals and on assist. Isaac Geurink contributed a pair of goals in the loss. Robert McHenry and Brenden Schuffenhauer each picked up seven groundballs for the Eagles.
The Bluejays outshot the Eagles 43 to 29.
Elmhurst grabbed 47 groundballs to Northwestern-St.Paul's 33.
McHenry tallied 14 saves for the Eagles, while
Harry Meredith and
Noah Mickelson earn the win for the Bluejays with 12 combined saves.
Elmhurst looks to continue its winning ways at DePauw University on Sunday, March 6 at 12:00 p.m.
