LAKE MYRTLE, Fla. - The Elmhurst University baseball team suffered a 12-2 setback to Colby College at the RussMatt Invitational in Florida.
Elmhurst (7-7) fell behind 1-0 after the first inning, but
Brett Bishop drew a bases loaded walk to tie the score after one inning. Colby (6-0) broke things open in the second, scoring six runs to open up a 7-1 cushion.
Trey Romay drove in a run for the Bluejays on a sacrifice fly in the second to pull the Bluejays to within five, but Colby scored four times in the fourth and added a run in the fifth to pull away for the 12-2 win.
Drew Raspolich collected two of Elmhurst's four hits on the day. Romay added a double and a walk while driving in a run.
Jay Palmer made the start and took the loss for Elmhurst, allowing five hits and six earned runs in one inning of work. He walked one and struck out one.
Elmhurst takes on Rockford College and Lawrence University on March 26 in Rockford.
