Bluejays Win Fifth in a Row

ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst University men's lacrosse team extended its winning streak to five with a decisive 23-6 victory over Benedictine University at Langhorst Field.

Jake Grebe scored the first Bluejay goal with 12:23 remaining in the first quarter.

Benedictine's (3-3) Ben Zimmerman tied the game up at one apiece with his first goal of the game with 8:40 left to play in the opening period.

The Bluejays took over offensively for the rest of the contest. Elmhurst (5-2) held a 12-3 advantage at the midway point.

Elmhurst outscored Benedictine 11 to 3 in the second half to cruise to victory.

The Bluejays finished with 11 different goal scorers. Leading the way was Ben Luke with five goals and two assists. Parker O'Leary added in three goals and assists, while Grebe chipped in two goals and three assists. Marcus Yandall and Ethan Stepanek each contributed a pair of goals in the win. Sante Dybowski tallied four goals, while Cullen Nordeman, Austin Evans, Chase Krolik, Philo Biane and Pete Grebe each added one goal apiece. Jakob Lemke won 13-of-15 faceoffs and Braden King won 9-of-11.

The Eagles were led by Colin Domek with two goals and three assists. Zimmerman finished with a hattrick, while Joe Spahn chipped in one goal in the loss. Nathan Theodorovic and Anthonio Shepard picked up three groundballs apiece.

Elmhurst outshot Benedictine 55 to 18 and picked up 41 groundballs to the Eagles 17.

Benedictine goalkeeper, Colin Doyle, collected 19 save, while Bluejay goalkeeper, Noah Mickelson, earned the win with eight saves.

Elmhurst heads to Rhodes College on Sunday, March 20 for its next matchup at 4:00 p.m.
