CHICAGO, Ill. - The Elmhurst University baseball team's rally came up two runs short, falling to the Illinois Institute of Technology 11-9.
Elmhurst fell behind 8-1 after six innings before rallying for an eight-run seventh inning. Ben Bishop started the scoring with an RBI double.
Jonathan Mays added a two-run single and
Trey Romay belted a three-run homer to pull elmhurst to within one.
Freddie March continued to swing a red-hot bat, smashing a two-run homer two batters later to give Elmhurst a 9-8 lead.
Elmhurst could not hold the lead, however, as IIT pulled even with a run in the bottom of the seventh and went ahead for good with a two-run homer by Connor Blake.
Romay led Elmhurst at the plate, finishing 4-for-5 with three RBIs and a run scored. March added two hits and drove in two while
Zachary Hafner and
Drew Raspolich collected two hits apiece.
Cole Bozzi took the loss in relief, surrendering seven hits and five runs over 2.2 innings of work.
Elmhurst travels to Florida next week to play in the RussMat Invitational. The Bluejays will face Benedictine University in Clermont, Fla. on March 20.
