CHICAGO, Ill. – The Elmhurst University women's track and field team totaled 123.5 points to take second place out of seven teams at the University of Chicago's Windy City Rumble.
Huda Hussaini and Hana Matuszewski both scored top-eight finishes in the 60 meter dash. Hussaini placed fourth in 8.27 seconds while Matuszewski placed sixth in 8.35 seconds. Hussaini, Matuszewski and
Marisa Brown placed sixth, seventh and eighth respectively, in the 200 meter dash. Hussaini placed sixth in 27.40 seconds while Matuszewski finished the race in 27.54 seconds. Brown placed eight in 27.62 seconds.
Ava David and Sadie Hartman finished third and seventh, respectively in the 400 meters. David crossed the line in 1:01.36 while Hartman finished the race in 1:05.30.
In the 800 meters,
Alyssa Rafuse placed sixth in 2:21.37 while
Lauren Mack finished right behind in 2:30.40.
Esther Brown also scored a team point by placing eighth in 2:30.42.
Emily Gilligan added a fourth-place finish in the mile, completing the race in 5:21.07.
Natalie Hernandez,
Elita Spadlowski and
Emily Clausen combined for 21 points in the 5,000 meters. Hernandez won the race in 18:42.91 while Spadlowski placed third in 18:57.91. Clausen finished fourth in 19:10.23.
Nakala Nadeau and
Edith Mercado both bettered the Elmhurst school record time in the 60 meter hurdles. Nadeau finished third in 9.35 seconds while Mercado finished just behind in fourth place in 9.39 seconds.
The Bluejays 4x400 relay team of David, Hartmann, Mercado and Nadeau finished third in 4:24.61.
Elmhurst had a strong showing in the jumps.
Stefania Camaci won the high jump by clearing a height of 1.55 meters.
Sarah Stephens placed fourth at 1.45 meters while Hartmann and
Mallory Burke tied for sixth with a jump of 1.40 meters.
Amanda Lams improved upon her school-record mark in the long jump, leaping to a distance of 5.35 meters, the top mark in the CCIW. Marissa Brown placed sixth in the long jump (4.97 meters) while Francesca Scarbaggio finished eighth in 4.84 meters. Lams added a third-place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 11.44 meters. Scarbaggio finished fifth (10.06 meters) and
Erin Matthias finished sixth with a jump of 9.75 meters.
Kelsey Becker added a third-place finish in the pole vault, clearing a height of 3.16 meters.
Grace Tu finished sixth in the event at 2.71 meters.
Elmhurst competes at Illinois Wesleyan University's KECK Invitational next Saturday, February 12.
