KENOSHA, Wis. – The Elmhurst University women's track and field team recorded its best-ever finish at the CCIW Indoor Track and Field Championships by totaling 140 points to place second overall, placing just seven points behind North Central College for the team title.
A whopping 16 Bluejays earned all-conference honors with three Bluejays earning a total of four individual conference titles. The Bluejays' previous best-finish came during the 2001 season when the squad place fourth. Elmhurst Head Coach
Jordan Bartolazzi and his coaching staff was recognized as the CCIW's Coaching Staff of the Year.
Amanda Lams earned her a pair of CCIW Championship by winning both the long jump and triple jump competitions. On Friday in the long jump, Lams leaped to a distance of 5.43 meters, bettering her own school record in the process. Lams finished with three jumps that were of greater distance than second-place finisher Emma Helferich of Illinois Wesleyan. Lams added the triple jump title on Saturday, unleashing a jump of 11.58 meters on her second attempt. Every on of Lams' jumps went for a further distance than second-place finisher Lauren Wong of Illinois Wesleyan.
Ava David won the CCIW title in the 400 meters, shaving nearly two seconds off her school record time in a blistering time of 57.76 seconds. David won the race by nearly three seconds and was the only runner to finish the race in less than a minute. David added two additional all-conference honors by placing second in both the 200 meters (26.07 seconds) and the 55 meters (7.32 seconds).
Emily Gilligan won the individual title in the 3,000 meters, winning the race by nearly four seconds in 10:20.96. Gilligan was one four all-conference runners in the 3,000 meters as the Bluejays totaled 20 points in the second to last event of the day. Elmhurst pulled to within four points of North Central after the race before the Cardinals closed out the team title in the 4x400 meters. Gilligan added all-conference honors in the mile run (placing fourth in 5:14.65) and the distance medley relay.
Huda Hussaini added two all-conference honors to her career, placing fourth in the 55 meters in 7.42 seconds and fifth in the 200 meters in 26.42 seconds. Elmhurst hurdlers
Nakala Nadeau and
Edith Mercado both earned all-conference honors in the 55 hurdles. Nadeau placed third in 8.53 seconds while Mercado finished fourth in 8.75 seconds.
Three other Bluejays earned all-conference honors in the jumps.
Stefania Camaci took home second-place in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.62 meters in her second attempt. Augustana's Kat Krebash won the title by clearing 1.62 meters in her first try.
Francesca Scarabaggio and
Marisa Brown also earned all-conference honors in the long jump, placing sixth and seventh, respectively. Scarabaggio recorded a mark of 5.08 meters while Brown recorded a jump of 5.07 meters.
Erin Matthias placed sixth in the triple jump with a mark of 10.31 meters.
Elmhurst's distance medley relay team of
Alyssa Rafuse,
Venezia Munoz,
Lauren Mack and Gilligan narrowly missed out on a conference title. The team settled for second-place and all-conference honors after crossing the finish line in 12:35.04, jut .03 seconds behind North Central's team. Rafuse and Mack added all-conference honors in the 800 meters with Rafuse placing fourth (2:22.85) and Mack finishing eighth (2:26.38). Rafuse added a third all-conference honor in the mile by placing fifth in 5:16.95.
The Bluejays' picked up 11 points in the 5,000 meters behind three all-conference performances.
Natalia Hernandez finished third, crossing the finish line in 18:12.01.
Emily Clausen placed fifth in 18:25.28 and
Elita Spadlowski scored an eighth-place finish with a time of 18:50.43. All three runners earned all-conference honors in the 3,000 meters as well. Clausen placed fourth in 10:37.15 while Hernandez finished sixth (10:39.53) and Spadlowski seventh (10:41.48). Hernandez added an all-conference honor in the mile run by placing eight in 5:21.43.
Elmhurst's 4x400 relay team of Karmen Flesch,
Sadie Hartmann,
Stacia Landry and Munoz placed fourth in 4:10.74, scoring five team points and narrowly missing out on all-conference honors.
