Men's Lacrosse Comes Up One Goal Short in Season-Opener

DANVILLE, Ky. – The Elmhurst University men's lacrosse team came up one goal short in its 2022 season-opener, falling 11-10 at 15th-ranked Centre College.

Elmhurst's Marcus Yandall put the Bluejays on the board first with a goal in the first 45 seconds of play.

Noah Malubay and David Caldwell scored back-to-back goals for Centre to take the lead 2-1 with 9:23 left in the opening quarter.

Yandall connected with teammate Ben Luke to tie the game up at two apiece.

The Colonels put one more into the back of the net before the end of the first period to take a 3-2 lead after the first 15 minutes of play. Centre made it 4-2 early in the second, but Elmhurst (0-1) closed the half on a 3-1 scoring run to pull even at 5-5 at the break.

Both squads went back-and-forth in the second half. Centre led 10-9 with less than a minute to play, but Luke scored with 46 seconds left to knot the score at 10-all.
Centre's Will Hubbs scored the game-winner off a Dylan Croft assist with 37 seconds left to give the Colonels the victory.
 
Elmhurst was led by Yandall's four goals and one assist. Luke finished with three goals, while Jake Grebe and Cullen Nordeman each had a goal and an assist in the loss. Parker O'Leary also netted a goal for Elmhurst. David Castaneda and Harry Meredith finished with a team-high four groundballs.

Centre was led by Hubbs with four goals and one assist. David Caldwell chipped in three goals, while Malubay added in a pair of goals. Dylan Croft finished with one goal, one assist and picked up a game-high eight groudballs.

The Colonels outshot the Bluejays 52 to 28 and won 18-of-25 faceoffs.

Elmhurst's Harry Meredith collected 12 saves, while Centre's Cole Ramsay earned the win with 12 saves.

Elmhurst hosts Hope College next Saturday (February 26) in the Bluejays' home-opener.
