Women's Track Competes at IWU Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The Elmhurst University women's track and field team returned to action at Illinois Wesleyan University's Titan Open. While no team scores were kept, the Bluejays had multiple top-10 performances.
 
Ava David earned a pair of top-10 finishes and set a new school record in the sprints. David won the 200 meters with a school record time of 25.82 seconds. She added a third-place finish in the 60 meters, crossing the finish line in 7.99 seconds. Huda Hussaini also added two top-10 finishes in the sprints. She placed fourth in the 60 meters (8.07 seconds) and fifth in the 200 meters (26.99 seconds). Karmyn Flesch and Venezia Munoz added top-10 finishes in the 400 meters. Flesch placed seventh in 1:03.5 while Munoz finished ninth in 1:03.79. The Bluejays' 4x400 relay team of David, Gianna Konieczny, Stacia Landry and Sadie Hartman places second in 4:19.88.
 
Lauren Mack and Elizabeth Jones added top-10 finishes in the 800 meters with Mack finishing fifth (2:33.13) and Jones placing ninth in 2:35.06.
 
Natalia Hernandez won the mile run with a time of 5:24.66 while Esther Brown (fifth in 5:42.87) and Natalie Wagner (seventh in 5:44.93) also earned top-10 finishes in the mile. Jennifer Claudio placed ninth in the 3,000 meters (11:48.14) while five Bluejays earned top-10 finishes in the 5,000 meters. Annie Bieda won the 5,000 in 19:56.86 while Noelle Veome placed third in 20:12.70. Grace Grimaldi (20:40.7), Tala Yacoub (21:08.14) and Audrey Renaud (21:32.25) finished third, sixth and seventh, respectively.
 
Nakala Nadeaua and Edith Mercado continued to have strong showings in the 60 meter hurdles. Nadeua won the race in 9.24 seconds while Mercado finished third in 9.41 seconds.
 
Kelsey Becker placed fifth and Grace Tu finished sixth in the pole vault. Becker cleared a height of 2.75 meters while Becker cleared a height of 2.60 meters.
 
Three Bluejays earned top-10 finishes in all three jump events. Stefania Camaci placed fourth with a jump of 1.50 meters. Hartman cleared a eight of 1.45 meters to place sixth while Mallory Burke finished sixth after jumping to a height of 1.40 meters. Amanda Lams finished second in the long jump with a leap of 5.41 meters while Marisa Brown placed third (5.14 meters) and Francesca Scarabaggio placed sixth (5.04 meters). Lams added a second-place finish in the triple jump, leaping to a distance of 11.14 meters. Erin Matthias placed seventh in the triple jump with a mark of 10.06 meters while Scarabaggio finished 10th with a jump of 9.65 meters.
 
In the throws, Ericka Creek scored a seventh-place finish in the weight throw with a toss of 12.46 meters. Sarah Stephens recorded a throw of 9.75 meters in the shot put to place 10th.
 
Elmhurst will compete at the North Central College Slick Invitational on February 18.
