Elmhurst Volleyball Drops a Pair

ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst University volleyball team dropped two five set matches in a home triangular match against University of Chicago and the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire. 
 
University of Chicago 3, ELMHURST 2 - Elmhurst (4-11) dropped a tightly contested five-set match to Otterbein University to start the day. The University of Chicago (12-8) came from behind to take the match, 23-25, 25-22, 21-25, 25-17, 15-12. 
 
The first set was close throughout with Elise Rossing getting the last two kills for the Bluejays. The second was another battle. The Maroons were down 16-21 before they went on a 7-0 run to take the lead 23-21. Elmhurst fought and won the battle of a back and forth third set before the Maroons would battle to a win in the fourth set. 
 
The University of Chicago was off to an early 8-2 lead in the fifth set before Elmhurst battled back to 11-13. The comeback fell short as the Maroons won the match with a 15-12 set win in the fifth. 

Elmhurst hit .148 for the match with 50 kills and 23 errors in 182 attempts. Elise Rossing led the Bluejays' attack finishing with 17 kills and five digs. Jada Wiley tallied 12 kills, three service aces, four blocks, and 28 digs. Payton Ceh added 27 digs of her own, while Hannah horn had 24 assists and two service aces. Katelyn Bower had a strong night at the net with six blocks. 
 
 
Wisconsin Eau Claire 3, ELMHURST 2 – Elmhurst finished the day 0-2 after falling 21-25, 25-21, 25-20, 22-25, 15-6 to #13 ranked Wisconsin Eau Claire. 


The Blugolds took an early 4-0 lead in the first set but the Bluejays fought back to take the first set. Elmhurst continued the strong start taking a 6-1 lead in the second set. The teams had seven ties in the second before Wisconsin Eau Claire took the set. Elmhurst could not hold off a 6-0 run in the third set to fall behind 1-2. The Blugolds were in control of the fourth set 9-3, but the Bluejays fought hard to come back taking the lead 11-10 with a service ace. They continued to keep control of the set tying the match at 2 with a 25-22 win. Elmhurst was overpowered in the fifth falling 6-15 to lose the match. 
 
Elmhurst hit .139 for the contest with 58 kills and 34 errors on 173 attempts. Rossing led the match with 21 kills. Wiley finished with 14 kills, two aces, four blocks, and 20 digs. Ceh added another 20 digs four assists, and three aces. Assist leader was Hannah Horn with 26. 
 
Elmhurst hosts Augustana College (IL) in CCIW play on Tuesday, October 11th at 7:00pm.
