Volleyball Comes Up Short Against Wisconsin Lutheran

WAUWATOSA, Wis. – The Elmhurst University volleyball team dropped its opening match to the host of the Warrior Invitational, Wisconsin Lutheran College, 3-2 at the Time of Grace Center.

The Warriors (11-10/7-6 NACC) edged the Bluejays 25-23 and 25-22 in the first two sets to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

Elmhurst (6-18/3-5 CCIW) tied things up after taking sets three and four by scores of 25-18 and 25-21.

In the fifth set, both squads went back-and-forth tying the set up 10 times before Wisconsin Lutheran's Jenna Charron posted back-to-back kills to give the Warriors the 18-16 win in the set and the 3-2 win in the match.

Elmhurst hit .261 as a team and finished with 54 kills and 17 errors in 142 attempts. Elise Rossing led the Bluejays with 14 kills, while Jada Wiley added in 12 kills, three blocks and 13 digs. Kayla Daros finished with a team-high 13 digs, while Kellyn Kennedy tallied 15 assists and 12 digs in the loss. Hannah Horn led the team with 23 assists and tied with Daros and Keely Larson with four aces.

Wisconsin Lutheran hit .206 as a team and finished with 55 kills and 23 errors in 155 attempts. Charron led the Warriors with 21 kills and 14 digs, while Kayla Wigley chipped in 11 kills and one block. Kylee Gnabasik finished with a match-high nine aces, four assists and 16 digs. Emily Sarles and Emma Incaprero tallied 24 and 20 assists respectively in the win.

The Bluejays are back in action in day two of the Warrior Invitational against MSOE at 10:00 a.m. and Coe at 2:00 p.m.
