Decatur, Ill. – The Elmhurst University football team fell 13-0 to Millikin at Frank M. Lindsay Field.
Defense was the big story of this contest as both teams finished with under 125 years of total offense. The Bluejays held Millikin to 99 total offensive yards on the day. The defensive produced nine sacks, which ties an Elmhurst record in a game.
Millikin (3-4 / 2-4 CCIW) scored one offensive and one defensive touchdown to secure the CCIW victory.
Elmhurst (0-7/0-6 CCIW) totaled nine first downs and 122 passing yards, in 64 plays, while the Big Blue totaled 11 first downs 99 passing yards in 64 plays in the contest.
Andrey Acosta finished the game 14-28 for 122 yards. In the air
Winston Brown finished with five receptions for 38 yards, while
Julian Cavallo finished with 34 yards on four catches.
Defensively
Devin Schmit and
Charles Scott both finished with eight total tackles.
Jamon Gooden finished with seven tackles; six were for a loss totaling 30 yards. Gooden also tallied 2.5 sacks in the contest.
Bryce Gable tallied two sacks, while Jack Masco was credited with 1.5 sacks in the game. Gable finished with six tackles, 3.5 being for a loss while Masco added an additional seven. The Bluejays also had a total of nine sacks and had Millikin forced to fumble on 14 occasions.
Millikin got on the board with a 20 yard rushing touchdown by Matthew Salazar in the second quarter. The Big Blue's second score was off an interception returned for a touchdown by Nickolas Burks. In the air Millikin was led by Leigh Nutall who finished with four receptions for 41 yards and Donald McGhee added two catches for 26 yards.
Strong defense was pivotal for the Big Blue led by Christopher Montgomery who totaled nine tackles, four for a loss of 27 yards, and two forced fumbles.
The Bluejays return home for their next game on Saturday, October 29 to take on Washington University of St. Louis at 1:00 p.m.
