Elmhurst Football Loses Heartbreaker in Double Overtime to Carroll 31-28

ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst University football team lost a heartbreaker in double overtime to Carroll 31-28 at Langhorst Field. 

Carroll (4-2/ CCIW 3-2) wins their second game in three weeks in double overtime. The Pioneers Jacob Laurent completed the field goal to close out the double overtime game and take the 31-28 win.  

Elmhurst (0-6/0-5 CCIW) held possession for 34:50 minutes of the game, almost ten minutes longer than Carroll.  Carroll was the first to score 11:14 into the first with a two-yard pass to J.R Muth from Josh Raby. The scoring for the Bluejays started in the first with a fumble recovery by Jamon Gooden who returned 19 yards for the score. This tied the game up 11:52 into the second. Three minutes later Carroll had an answer with a second touchdown between Muth and Raby this time with a 12-yard pass. Next on the board for Elmhurst was Gabe Holtke who landed in the endzone with a 62-yard pass from Andrey Acosta to tie the game at the half. 
 
The third quarter was scoreless for both teams as they entered the fourth tied at 14-14. Elmhurst took the first lead of the game with a running touchdown by Keith Gallon in a 71-yard drive across ten plays. The lead held for about six minutes before the Pioneers answered with a 16-yard run from Raby to knot the game at 21 a piece. 
 
Overtime started with Carroll taking the first offensive drive. Jaxon Case scored on an eight-yard run for the four play 25-yard touchdown. Elmhurst took the ball next and answered right back with a six-yard pass to Winston Brown from Acosta to finish the seven play 25-yard drive. Elmhurst got the ball back for the next drive of the overtime. The Bluejays missed a 41-yard field goal attempt by Sandro Quintanilla to turn over the possession. On the next possession Laurent made the field goal to take the 31-28 victory for the Pioneers. 
 
The Bluejays finished with 336 yards of total offense for 262 passing yards and 74 yards on the ground. Leading the passing Andrey Acosta finishing 16-34 for 207 yards and two touchdowns.  Acosta added 36 rushing yards on eight attempts to lead the rushing totals. Aidan Pollock was just behind with seven attempts for 35 yards on the ground. 
 
Holtke finished with 68 total receiving yards and a touchdown, while Jacob Cockrell added 42 more for the offense. Trey Stablein caught one reception for 39 yards of offense while Brown tallied 36 yards on four attempts with a touchdown.

 Carroll quarterback Raby finished 24-49 with 251 yards of offense and two touchdowns.  Raby added 43 yards on the ground as well, while Case finished with 42 yards. Leading the rushing for the Pioneers was Nick Legnaioli with 55 yards on ten attempts. 
 
Elmhurst's defense was led by Jake Masco with 13 tackles, 11 of them solo tackles, followed just behind by Charles Scott who tallied nine tackles and seven solo. Brett Von Schwdler finished the game with two interceptions for 47 yards and an additional five tackles on defense.  
 
Elmhurst travels to face Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois next Saturday October 22nd at 1:00pm.
