ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst University women's tennis team defeated McHenry College at 8-1 at the Brune Tennis Courts for the Bluejays' first victory of the season.
Elmhurst (1-2) swept all three double matches before taking five of the six singles contests.Â
In doubles play,
Isabella Rahman and
Bailey Ekstrand scored an 8-7 win over Sarah Shuetzle and Hannah Shuetzle at No. 1.
June Bering and
Brynn Rubacky followed with an 8-3 win over Alison Grezhordt and Jenn Bennett at No. 2 doubles. The Bluejays' pairing of
Silvia Barak and
Megan Engstrom stopped Riley Wasik and Neidy Macias 8-1 at No. 3.Â
In singles play, Hannah Shuetzle scored McHenry's only win by stopping Barak 6-1, 3-6, 10-4 at No. 1 singles. The Bluejays won the final five matches with Bering defeating Grezhordt 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 and Rahman stopping Wasilk 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3. Ekstrand upended Julie Conrad 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4 while Engstrom defeated Jenn Bennett 6-1, 6-1 at No.5.
Alitza Munoz added a 7-6, 2-6, 11-9 win over Kaitlyn Mauck at No. 6 singles.Â
