ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst men's soccer team suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 loss in overtime to Concordia University-Chicago in the Bluejays' season-opening contest at Langhorst Field.

Elmhurst (0-1) looked like they had the game won when
Ilija Jerinic scored off a
Brady Lucas assist with just 9.1 seconds left on the clock in regulation. Concordia-Chicago (1-0) scored the equalizer just before the horn. Elmhurst was unable to handle the Cougars's kickoff and Joel Diaz poked the loose ball home to even the score at 1-1.

In overtime, Samuel Epperly collected a loose ball off an Elmhurst defender and scored the game-winner less than four minutes into the extra period.

Elmhurst outshot Concordia 17-9 in the loss and held an 8-2 edge in corner kicks.

Preston Chartier totaled three saves in goal for Elmhurst while Joseph Perez totaled four saves while playing the final 48 minutes for the Cougars.
