ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst men's soccer team suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 loss in overtime to Concordia University-Chicago in the Bluejays' season-opening contest at Langhorst Field.
 
Elmhurst (0-1) looked like they had the game won when Ilija Jerinic scored off a Brady Lucas assist with just 9.1 seconds left on the clock in regulation. Concordia-Chicago (1-0) scored the equalizer just before the horn. Elmhurst was unable to handle the Cougars's kickoff and Joel Diaz poked the loose ball home to even the score at 1-1.
 
In overtime, Samuel Epperly collected a loose ball off an Elmhurst defender and scored the game-winner less than four minutes into the extra period.
 
Elmhurst outshot Concordia 17-9 in the loss and held an 8-2 edge in corner kicks.
 
Preston Chartier totaled three saves in goal for Elmhurst while Joseph Perez totaled four saves while playing the final 48 minutes for the Cougars.
 
Elmhurst plays at Dominican University on Friday, September 3.
