KENOSHA, Wis. - The Elmhurst University men's tennis team closed out its regular season by suffering an 8-1 loss at Carthage College.
Elmhurst fell to 1-9 overall and 1-6 in the CCIW with the loss while Carthage upped its record to 8-6 overall and 5-2 in the CCIW.
The Firebirds swept the three doubles contests. Patrick Anderson and John Nykyforuk downed Elmhurst's
Tavious Imperial and
Shawn Sabaricos 8-0 at No. 3. Kevin Dunn and Cooper Ferruzzi followed with an 8-1 win over
Florin Stan and
Brandon Fulmer at No. 2 doubles. The No. 1 doubles match was tightly contested before Carthage's Nicolas Welker and Matt Krzewinski edged Elmhurst's
Justin Penados and
Ben Cavka 8-7.
In singles play, Chris Mitev blanked Imperial 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 while Ferruzzi defeated Cavka 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4. Andre Antreassian scored a 6-4, 6-4 win over Sabaricos at No. 5. Krzewinski earned a 6-0, 6-1 win over Stan at No. 3 while Nicolas Welker toppled Fulmer 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2.
Elmhurst scored its point at No. 1 singles when Penados scored a tightly-contested 6-3, 5-7, 10-8 win over Tripp Schulte at No. 1.
Elmhurst will travel to Augustana College on Tuesday, May 4, to play in the CCIW Tournament quarterfinals.
