INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Elmhurst University volleyball team defeated Covenant College and Augustana College on the opening day of the AVCA Division II Tournament.
 
Elmhurst defeated Covenant 25-20, 25-19, 25-18 to open the day. The Bluejays finished the day unbeaten by toppling Augustana 23-25, 25-19, 25-15, 25-15. Elmhurst improved to 7-1 on the season with the wins.
 
ELMHURST 3, COVENANT 0 – Elmhurst open the day with a hard-fought three-set win over Covenant.
 
Kayla Mast powered the Bluejays in the victory, finishing with 18 kills and eight digs. Taylor Zurliene added 12 kills and 13 digs while Erin Murray totaled eight kills apiece. Murray added a team-leading 35 assists to go along with 10 digs while Duis tallied three solo blocks. Payton Froats chipped in with seven kills and two blocks in the win. Valerie Thomas led the team in digs with 19 while Emily Finkbeiner added 11.
 
ELMHURST 3, AUGUSTANA 1 – The Bluejays closed the day with a 2-0 record after rallying from a set down to stop Augustana College in four sets.
 
Mast led a balanced Bluejay attack, totaling 10 kills and eight digs. Zurliene finished with seven kills and 17 digs. Duis, Murray and Froats finished with six kills apiece. Duis added four solo blocks while Murray tallied 27 assists and seven digs. Froats added three blocks for the Bluejays. Cayden Nadolney added four kills for the Bluejays. Thomas totaled 10 digs and four aces while Finkbeiner finished with 12 digs.
 
The Bluejays will play in the gold bracket semifinals against an opponent to be determined tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. (EST)
