ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst University women's tennis team dropped a 7-2 CCIW contest to Carthage College at the Brune Tennis Courts.
Elmhurst (0-3/0-2 CCIW) won two of the six singles contests before Carthage swept all three doubles contests. Singles matches were played first due to the weather.
Julia Kostadinova rallied from a set down to score a win at No. 1 singles for the Bluejays, toppling Sam Ramsey in three sets (4-6, 6-4, 11-9).
Isabella Rahman picked up a 6-3, 6-3 win over Carthage's Stephanie Yerges at No. 5 singles to account for the Bluejays' other point in singles play. Rachel Anderson stopped Elmhurst's
Morgan Bilancia 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2 while Sierra Sonnemaker defeated
Bailey Ekstrand 6-2, 6-1 at No.3. Faelen O'Shaughnessy stopped
June Bering 6-4, 6-1 at No. 4 while Emily Krysninski defeated the Bluejays'
Megan Engstrom 7-5, 6-2 at No. 6.
In doubles matches, Ramsey and Anderson defeated Elmhurst's pairing of Kostadinova and Rahman 8-2 at No. 1. Sonnemaker and O'Shaughnessy scored an 8-1 win at No. 2 over Ekstrand and Bering. Kenna Beth and Yerges defeated Bilancia and Engstrom 8-3 at No. 3.
Elmhurst hosts Illinois Wesleyan University on Friday, April 9.
