ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst University women's tennis team dropped its CCIW opener to Carroll University, falling 8-1 to the Pioneers at the Brune Tennis Courts.
Carroll (5-2/3-2 CCIW) swept all six singles matches and two of the three doubles contests to earn the win.
In doubles play, Carroll's Grace Krueger and Madison Ostrander defeated
Julia Kostadinova and
Bailey Ekstrand 8-2 at No. 1. Maya Gaedtke and Lora Leach toppled Elmhurst's
June Bering and
Isabella Rahman 8-1 at No. 2. Elmhurst scored its only point of the night at No. 3 doubles when
Morgan Bilancia and
Megan Engstrom defeated Carolyn Merkatoris and Francesca Grimes 8-7 at No. 3.
The Pioneers swept the singles contests. Krueger defeated Kostadinova 7-5, 6-0 at No. 1 while Gaedtke toppled Ekstrand 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2. Ostrander defeated Bering 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 while Leach upended Bilancia 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4. Merkatoris defeated Rahman 6-4, 6-2 at No. 5 while Clare Veranth stopped Engstrom 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6.
Elmhurst hosts Carthage College on Wednesday, April 7.
