Bluejays Blank Hanover 19-0

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Elmhurst University men's lacrosse team recorded its first shutout victory since the 2015 season as the Bluejays rolled past Hanover College 19-0. 

Elmhurst improved to 7-2 overall while Hanover fell to 2-3 overall. 

Marcus Yandall, Ben Berke and Andrew Frerich all totaled hat tricks as the Bluejays scored early and often in the victory. 

After a scoreless first seven minutes of action, the Bluejays exploded to score seven times in the final 8:18 of action in the first quarter, including twice in the final 17 seconds, Berke scored all three of his goals in the opening quarter while Yandall scored twice and Frerich and Sante Dybowski also netted goals for the Bluejays. 

Elmhurst continued to pull away in the second quarter as Frerich, Jake Grebe and Yandall all scored in the first two minutes of play to extend the team's lead to 10-0. Elmhurst tacked on six more goals before the half to carry a 16-0 lead into halftime. Blaine Hynde, Ethan Stepanek and Philo Biane all scored in the third quarter to make the final score 19-0 in favor of the Bluejays. 

Elmhurst outshot Hanover 52-16 in the contest. 

Berke finished with nine points on the day, scoring three times and adding six assists. His six assists ties the third-highest single-game total in school history. Ben Luke added four points on two goals and two assists while Yandall and Frerich tallied four points each on three goals and one assist apiece. Hyne, Grebe and Dybowski all scored two goals for the Bluejays while Cullen Nordemann added two assists. David Castaneda forced three turnovers and recorded two ground balls for the Bluejays. 

Jake Delgado, Noah Mickelson and Justin Nguyen combined for the shutout win in goal. Delgado played 31 minutes and recorded three saves while Mickelson played 13:30 of the third quarter and finished with five saves. Nguyen played the fourth quarter and stopped three shots. 

Elmhurst hosts Augustana College on Saturday, April 10.
