Bluejays Fall to Titans 25-16

ELMHURST, ILL. – The Elmhurst University men's lacrosse squad fell to Illinois Wesleyan University 25-16 on Langhorst Field.

In the first quarter the Bluejays (9-4) got off to a hot start, scoring six goals off 15 shots to take an early 6-3 lead. Elmhurst extended its lead to 9-3 in the beginning of the second quarter, but the Titans (10-1) responded with a 6-0 run to tie the game at 9-9. The Bluejays scored two goals before the end of the first half to take an 11-9 lead into halftime.

After two goals by Ben Luke in the third quarter, the Titans ripped off another five-goal run to open up a 15-13 lead. Illinois Wesleyan scored three more goals before the end of the quarter to hold a four-goal lead headed into the fourth quarter (18-14). The Titans scored four goals in the first half of the fourth quarter to take a commanding 22-14 lead. The teams traded goals and Illinois Wesleyan won 25-16 to stay undefeated in the CCIW.

Elmhurst was led by Ben Luke's eight points, seven goals and one assist on the afternoon. Andrew Frerich added a hattrick and one assist. Ben Berke recorded two goals and one assist. Cullen Nordeman and Jake Grebe each recorded one goal and three assists on the afternoon. Ryan Camarata led the Bluejay defense with four caused turnovers. Jake Delgado totaled 20 saves while allowing 25 goals in net.

Illinois Wesleyan was led by Connor Kiichle and Rick Smith who recorded 10 points apiece. Carson Kiichle added five goals and an assist of his own. Max Bousky went 24-29 at the faceoff "x" and posted two goals on the afternoon. Will Harris went 50% on the day, recording 16 saves while allowing 16 goals.

Game Notes
  • The Titans recorded 69 shots while the Bluejays posted 55.
  • Illinois Wesleyan won the ground, recording 31 ground balls to Elmhurst's 15.
  • The Titans won 32 of the 41 faceoffs while Elmhurst secured nine.
