CHICAGO, ILL. – The Elmhurst University baseball team fell to 12-14 overall and 8-12 in the CCIW after dropping a 7-2 road game to North Park University.
After a scoreless first four innings the Vikings got things started from a Logan Peters RBI single. Following a pitching change for the Bluejays, Jake Reinhardt singled through the right side and drove in another run to extend North Park's lead to 2-0. The Vikings continued to pull away with a Ranko Stevnovic RBI single and two-run home run from Justin Woolbright, totaling four hits and five runs in the bottom of the fifth.
North Park added another run in the sixth inning after Conner Woods lined out to center field, bringing in the man on third and giving the Vikings a 6-0 lead.
Paul Fomby hit a solo home run in the top of the seventh to put Elmhurst on the scoreboard. The Vikings answered with another Woolbright RBI in the bottom of the seventh to lead Elmhurst 7-1.
In the top of the ninth inning, a
Kevin Johlie RBI single brought the Bluejays within five runs. Elmhurst loaded the bases with only one out, but a double play ended the game, giving the Vikings the 7-2 home victory.
Bobby Bartlett held the Bluejays to two runs, six hits and posted two strike outs before being pulled in the top of the ninth inning.
J.D. Knight posted four strike outs, while letting up two hits and two runs in the four innings he pitched for the Bluejays.
The Bluejays will travel to Benedictine University on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at 6:00 P.M.
