ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst University baseball team split a doubleheader with North Park University at Butterfield Park. The Bluejays dropped the opening game 3-1 but bounced back to take the nightcap 5-2
 
Elmhurst moved to 12-13 overall and 8-10 in the CCIW following the split. North Park moved to 10-13 overall and 5-13 in league play.
 
NORTH PARK 3, EMHURST 1 (Game One) – North Park edged the Bluejays 3-1 in a game one pitcher's dual between Elmhurst's 
Jaysn Miller and the Vikings' Ethan Sund.
 
Both pitchers breezed through the first three innings before North Park cracked the scoreboard in the fourth. With two out and two one, Brendan Davis tripled down the right field line to stake the Vikings to 2-0 lead.
The Bluejays put two runners on in the fourth and fifth innings, but were unable to come up with a clutch hit. North Park added a run in the seventh on a Jake Reinhardt RBI single to make the score 3-0.
 
Elmhurst ended Sund's shutout bid in the ninth and put the tying runs on base before coming up short. 
Freddie March doubled to start the inning. 
Kevin Johlie singled March to third with one out. After a strikeout, 
Charlie May dropped a single into left field to score the Bluejays first run. North Park made a diving stop on 
Carter Truong's ground ball to get a force out and end the contest.
 
Sund went the distance for the Vikings, tossing all nine innings and allowing five hits and one earned run. He walked five and struck out eight. Miller suffered the loss for Elmhurst despite pitching well. He threw eight innings, scattering eight hits and three runs. He walked one and fanned five.
 
ELMHURST 5, NORTH PARK 2 (Game Two)  - 
Joseph Kalish pitched eight strong innings and elmhurst rallied from a 2-0 deficit to earn the doubleheader split with a 5-2 win in game two.
North Park scored two runs early on a two-out, two-run single from Jared Cantu in the second inning. After being held off the scoreboard for five innings, the Bluejays broke through in the sixth. Elmhurst loaded the bases with one out following three walks. 
Paul Fomby lined a sharp double down the first base line to drive in two runs and tie the game. 
Carter Truong followed with a sinking double just under the reach of the Vikings resulting in two more runs and a 4-2 Elmhurst lead. 
 
The Bluejays added a run in the seventh. 
Alexander Velazquez was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. He alertly went from first to third on a sacrifice bunt from 
Jonathan Mays. 
Trey Romay's RBI single knocked in Velazquez and gave the Bluejays a three-run cushion.
 
Romay and Truong finished with two hits apiece for the Bluejays. Troung and Fomby knocked in two runs each in the win.
 
Kalish picked up his fourth victory of the season, working eight strong innings and limiting North Park to only eight hits and two runs. He walked two and fanned three. 
Cole Bozzi pitched a perfect ninth inning to record his fourth save of the season.
 
Elmhurst plays at North Park tomorrow (April 18) at 1:00 p.m.
