ELMHURST, Ill. - The Elmhurst University women's tennis team suffered a 9-0 setback to North Central College at the Brune Tennis Courts.
North Central (8-4/5-0 CCIW) swept the six singles matches and three doubles contests on its way to the shutout. Elmhurst fell to 1-5/1-4 CCIW.
In doubles play Hannah Hougland and Alaina Kanthaphixay toppled Elmhurst's
Julia Kostadinova and Isabelle Rahman 8-0 at No. 1. Mikayla Edquiban and Sydney Sawyer downed the Bluejays' No. 2 team of
Bailey Ekstrand and
Megan Engstrom 8-0 at No. 2. Kaeli Smashey and Nina Patience defeated Elmhurst's
June Bering and Alita Munoz 8-1 at No. 3.
In singles play, Smashey topped Kostadinova 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 while Hougland defeated Bering 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2. Kanthaphixay defeated Rahman 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3 while Edquiban scored a 6-0, 6-2 win over Ekstrand at No. 4. Sawyer defeated Engstrom at No. 5 and Patience stopped Munoz 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6
Elmhurst hosts Millikin University on Friday, April 16.
