Bluejays Sweep Pair From Millikin

ELMHURST, Ill. – The Elmhurst University baseball team ran its record to 8-5 overall after sweeping both ends of a doubleheader from Millikin University. The Bluejays took game one 7-3 and finished the sweep with a 12-7 win in game two.
 
ELMHURST 7, MILLIKIN 3 (Game One) – Jaysn Miller pitched eight strong innings to lead the Bluejays to a 7-3 win over the Big Blue in game one.
 
Elmhurst struck first, grabbing a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second when Lorenzo Farino cracked a solo home run to right center. Elmhurst increased its lead in the third on another long ball. After Kevin Johlie reached on an error to lead off the inning, Carter Truong blasted a two-run shot over the left field fence to push Elmhurst's lead up to 3-0.
 
Millikin cut the deficit down to just one in the top of the fourth on a two-run homer from Garrett Fritz. Elmhurst responded with a run in the sixth to push its lead up to two. With two runners on, Truong dropped a single in to center field to drive in Troy Taller and put the Bluejays up 4-2.
 
Elmhurst scored three times in the seventh. Trey Romay doubled off the fence in center to start the inning. Paul Fomby followed with an RBI single. Elmhurst added a run on a bases loaded balk and then scored again on a Kevin Johlie RBI single. The Bluejays led 7-2 after seven innings.
 
Millikin scored a run in the eighth to make the final score 7-3 in favor of the Bluejays.
 
Elmhurst totaled 12 hits in the contest with Truong, Fomby, Romay, Farino and Taller all totaling two hits apiece. Truong drove in a team-leading three in the win.
 
Miller earned the win for the Bluejays, tossing eight solid innings and allowing just seven hits and two earned runs. He struck out eight while not issuing a walk. Caleb Buehrle took the loss for Millikin, working six innings and allowing eight hits and three earned runs. He walked one and fanned seven.
 
ELMHURST 12, MILLIKIN 7 (Game Two) – Elmhurst banged out 17 hits and 12 runs while finishing off the doubleheader sweep with a 12-7 victory in game two.
 
North Park pulled out in front early, taking a 1-0 lead on back-to-back doubles in the second inning. Elmhurst answered back immediately, hanging a six on the scoreboard after sending 12 batters to the plate in the second inning. Freddie March singled home a run to start the scoring. Truong added a two-run single and Tyler Kledzik also singled home a run. A Millikin error and a bases loaded walk to Farino accounted for the Bluejays' final two runs of the inning.
 
Millikin scored a run in the third and another in the fourth to cut Elmhurst's lead down to 6-3. The Bluejays' pushed their lead back to five runs after an RBI single from Paul Fomby and an RBI double from Farino in the fourth.

Fomby put the Bluejays up by six with a solo homer in the sixth inning. Millikin plated a run in the seventh but came no closer as the Bluejays walked away with the 12-7 victory.
 
Fomby finished 4-for-4 at the plate with four runs scored and two RBIs. Taller added three hits while Truong drove in four runs. Farino also drove in two for the Bluejays.
 
Joseph Kalish picked up the win from the mound. Kalish started and worked 6.1 innings, allowing eight hits and just three earned runs. He walked three and struck out two.
 
Elmhurst will attempt to finish the weekend sweep of Millikin tomorrow when the team travels to Decatur to take on the Big Blue.
