Bluejays Edge Eagles 12-9

SAINT PAUL, MN. – The Elmhurst University men's lacrosse squad defeated Northwestern-St. Paul 12-9 on the road.

In the first quarter the Eagles (1-3) struck first but the Bluejays (5-1) responded with three goals in the first five minutes to take an early lead (3-1). The Eagles ripped off a 3-0 run to regain the lead, but Jake Grebe scored before the end of the first quarter to tie it up at 4-4. After a Northwestern goal, the Bluejays went on a 4-0 run to lead 9-5 at halftime. Ben Luke scored two goals in the second quarter, recording a hattrick and five points in the first half.

Marcus Yandall scored his third goal in the first minute of the second half to extend the Bluejays' lead to 10-5. Elmhurst scored one more goal in the third quarter to hold a 11-5 lead entering the fourth. In the fourth quarter the Eagles did not go away, scoring four goals and closing to within three goals at 11-8. The Bluejays were able to hold on, scoring one goal in the fourth quarter to secure the 12-9 victory.

Elmhurst was led by Luke's six points, four goals and two assists. Yandall totaled four points on the day, scoring three goals and dishing out one assist. Frerich added two goals and one assist to help secure the win. Jake Delgado recorded 17 saves while allowing nine goals on the day.

Northwestern was led by Chase Marlenee's five goals and one assist. Noah Vander Kooi added two goals and two assists of his own. Keller Stephans recorded two points, one goal and one assist. Christoph Tisdale recorded 16 saves while allowing 12 goals on the afternoon.
