Bluejays' Win Streak Snapped by Eagles

LISLE, ILL. – The Elmhurst men's lacrosse squad dropped their first game of the season, falling to Benedictine University 9-3 on the road.

In the first quarter, Benedictine built a 2-0 lead after posting eight shots and controlling the faceoff "x". The Eagles took 11 shots and scored one goal in the second quarter to extend their existing lead. The Bluejays tried to respond, recording 15 shots in the first half but were unable to find the back of the net.

Benedictine continued to dominate at the faceoff "x" and scored three goals to Elmhursts' one in the third quarter. The Bluejays trailed 6-1 headed into the fourth quarter. Elmhurst scored two goals in the first five minutes of the fourth quarter to cut Benedictine's lead down to three (6-3). After four minutes without a goal the Eagles struck again and scored two more goals in the last two minutes of the game to capture the 9-3 victory.

Ben Luke, Sante Dybowski, and Ethan Stepanek scored one goal apiece to lead Elmhurst. Andrew Frerich added an assist and four ground balls. Ryan Camerata finished with five caused turnovers for the Bluejay defense, while Jake Delgado recorded 14 saves on the night.

Benedictine was led by Mateo Salceda and Colin Domek who each recorded two goals and one assist on the night. Joe Sphan added two goals of his own. Evan Kilbane made 16 saves in net while only allowing three goals.

Game Notes
  • The Eagles edged the Bluejays in ground balls 24-18.
  • Benedictine won 10 of the 15 faceoffs.
  • The Bluejays had 25 turnovers while the Eagles had 27.
  • Elmhurst went 0-1 and Benedictine went 0-2 on extra man opportunities.
