BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – The Elmhurst University women's track and field team turned in strong individual finishes at the Olivet Nazarene University Holiday Invite.
Elmhurst had a strong showing in the sprints four Bluejays earning top-10 finishes in the 60 and 200 meters. In the 60 meters,
Ava David placed second overall with a time 8.07 seconds. Hannah Scwartz placed seventh in 8.22 seconds while
Hanna Matuszewski placed eighth in 8.25 seconds. Francesca Scarbaggio finished ninth in 8.27 seconds. In the 200 meters, David turned in the second-fastest time in Elmhurst history with a time of 26.19 seconds. Matuszewski and Schwartz tied for fourth place in 27.58 seconds while Scarabaggio placed 10th in 28.15 seconds.
Karmyn Flesch placed fourth in the 800 meters, crossing the finish line in 2:36.61. Elmhurst's 4x400 relay team of
Edith Mercado,
Sadie Hartmann,
Nakala Nadeau and David placed fourth with a time of 4:27.92.
Nadeau and Mercado both bettered the previous Elmhurst record in the 60 meter hurdles. Nadeau placed second in 9.70 seconds while Mercado placed third in 9.76 seconds. Mercado previously held the school record in 10.06 seconds.
The Bluejays also turned in strong performances in the jumps. Five Bluejays scored top-10 finishes in the high jump.
Sarah Stephens finished third with a height of 1.50 meters while
Mallory Burke cleared 1.45 meters to place fourth.
Stefania Camaci also cleared 1.45 meters, placing fifth. Hartmann finished seventh with a jump of 1.40 meters while
Daniela Olle placed eight after clearing 1.30 meters.
Amanda Lams was the top Elmhurst finisher in the long jump, placing fifth overall with a distance of 5.15 meters. Scarabaggio added a seventh-place finish with a leap of 4.87 meters. Lams added a fourth-place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 11.19 meters.
Ericka Creek recorded a ninth-place finish in the weight throw after recording a toss of 12.19 meters.
Elmhurst runs at the UW-Oshkosh Early Invitational next Saturday (December 11).
